Undersown crops support the main crop and improve the soil while it grows — clover undersown in cereals, grass undersown in maize, field beans as a companion crop. Traditionally this takes considerable machinery — by drone, it becomes a short, precise flight into the standing crop, even when the crop is already tall or the soil is wet.

A dairy farm in Upper Swabia wants a grass undersowing in the maize for ground cover in autumn and less erosion in spring. The maize is already knee-high; the tractor would snap plants. We fly 12 kg per hectare in one afternoon before rain.
From the 4- to 6-leaf stage up to about knee height. Later on the drone makes the difference: when the crop is too tall for the tractor, we still fly.
